The aim of this seminar was to immerse ourselves into the field of Biomimetics; finding solutions for complex problems by studying the natural world. Studying in depth different behaviors from the Vespula Vulgaris, allowed us to select the insects life-cycle and seasonality patterns to develop a computational model that would permit the generation of a pavilion.
Once the behavior was defined, we developed an abstraction to be implemented in a computational model encoded algorithmically. By investigating diverse behaviors for the agents and attractor points, and varying variables such as the bounding box and repelling box, we explored diverse scenarios. Several simulations where made and tested, until we reached a synthesis of a system that would allow a possible structure and a shading system, defining our final computational model.
Radiation, wind and structural analysis were applied to 6 iterations, and a selection criteria was developed to select the most suitable model.
